Newborn Session Information

Newborns are among Kelley’s favorite subjects to photograph. Kelley knows that this time in your baby’s life will pass very quickly so she strives to capture your newborn and all the tiny details that you want to remember. Tiny toes, little hands, soft profile and all the other details of your precious one, to provide you with images you will always hold dear.

At the beginning of every session, before she even pulls out her camera, Kelley’s will first introduce herself and say hello! She often takes a moment to chat before she sets up. This is the time she will introduce herself to the children or sneak a peek at the new baby. Kelley’s aims is for your session to be casual and relaxed.

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY SESSION?

It is never too early to book a newborn session. Please call Kelley BEFORE your little one arrives. A tentative session time will be reserved based upon your due date. If you are to have a c-section or will be induced, Kelley will schedule your session date in advance. If you are going to let nature take its course, Kelley will mark your due date and expect a call from you as soon as baby arrives.

WHERE WILL THE SESSION BE?

Kelley’s clients love that she comes to you! She will bring her set up to you, so there is no need to make the trip.

Kelley will find the best light in the home. Because Kelley photographs using natural light, finding the best light coming into the home is key. This may not be the room you expect. It could be the bathroom, kitchen nook or your bedroom. Please don’t feel pressured to have every inch of your home tidied. To take full advantage of the available light she may even ask to move a piece of furniture but will help move everything back when the session is done.

Studio sessions are available for those who would prefer. Newborn studio sessions are available Monday, Friday and Saturday mornings.

WHEN WILL THE SESSION BE?

Ideally Kelley would like to capture your newborn in the first seven days of life but, with in the first 10 ten is preferred. Babies older than 10 days are more alert, sleep less and start to lose their baby curl. Also around 2 weeks’ newborn acne and colic may start.

WHAT SHOULD THEY WEAR?

Kelley captures newborns at their simplest. Most newborns are photographed without clothes. Kelley will use blankets, swaddle wraps, hats, baskets and other such items to add texture and interest to your portraits.

Kelley asks that parents have a white shirt handy in case she needs to use you as a backdrop.

Parents are encouraged to be available for a portion of the session. Kelley enjoys incorporating mom and dad into some of the images.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?

Kelley asks that you plan to feed your little one about 15 minutes before she arrives. It’s best to keep them swaddled in just a diaper and blanket until prior to the session, that way she is less likely to disrupt them by having to remove clothing. Kelley also suggests you turn up the heat a bit so it’s nice temperature for your bare little one.

When Kelley arrives she will set up her mini studio. This will take about 15 minutes. Once she is ready to begin she will work with your baby to swaddle position and shoot until your little one needs something.

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I ALLOW FOR MY SESSION?

Sessions are based on the individual newborns. If your little one is a good sleeper, your session could last about an hour but, it is common for a session to last up to 3 hours, depending on the needs of your little one. Plenty of time is allowed for feeding and snuggling, ideally Kelley likes the baby to sleep the entire time!

HOW WILL I VIEW MY PROOFS?

Approximately 2-3 weeks after your session, you will receive a link to your slide show. This will contain your images set to music so make sure to have your speakers on.
