Change begets change…

I heard that line somewhere once and realize that this is what life is all about right? change. constant change. The way we chose to either embrace it or fight it seems to be directly linked to our happiness meter. So my last post was in January explaining the changes coming to the studio- I’m sure by this point no one is “anxiously waiting to see what the blog will hold”… haha. you should know better! But what a season of change we’ve had! I still am thinking its January until I walk outside and am blinded by the sun and remember, “oh yeah, its May.” May! So we are happily getting some of our ever waiting changes to come done. We do have lots to come too- some new branding materials on the hopefully-not-too-distant-horizon. a new logo- to be unveiled when the rest arrives. A new employee, whom you’ll all get familiar with this season I’m sure! and as always as we are now full force wedding season a whole new crop of newlyweds- and there are so many beautiful exciting locations I get to shoot at this year! Can’t wait to see more of you out and about in the months to come!

9 years ago today I walked down the aisle to my best friend, shared in front of friends and family that I would love Him for the rest of my life, and now, 3,285 days later, I mean it more than I could even fathom it then. I thank God for the three beautiful babies He’s brought us, and for a husband I So cherish! How blessed we are! Happy Tuesday everyone

A New Year

New Year’s day represents so much for so many people- a fresh start, clean plate- all those terms… a way to wipe the slate and get yourself in gear and move forward again. A boost, you should say- usually from things that haven’t gone well, or changes you’ve been wanting to make, and are just too dang lazy… whatever it may be the new year is a great excuse for a starting point. Much anticipation, excitement, sometimes a little scary nervousness follows that new years day being welcomed. Around here all those things are happening in a big way. I have had a few things to update, change, and have needed to get off my keester and get er done- like actually posting a blog post, or updating a few things around the studio and website- but I’ve just been busy, lazy- whatever you want to call it- I haven’t made it a priority, so it hasn’t been done. In the last year- many of you met, worked with and got to know Kelley Frese who joined 317 last January to work along side me. Kelley is a great friend, fellow photographer, and mom in the photo biz like me. We decided to spend 2010 with our businesses merged with the hope that we could decide in 2011 that 317 would have two permanent photographers in place: Me as the wedding and high school senior specialist, and Kelley as the portrait, newborn, family, children specialist. We spent 2010 doing just that- a test run- however, on my side there were a few hitches- as you many of you know I found out in February that I was pregnant with my third little one and due October… oh yes, right in the middle of our fall wedding season, our christmas card season, and the holidays which are the busy time of year for everyone I know… perfect timing, no? But we carried on, through the morning sickness, the heat of the summer- the long hot fall, and before we knew it Christmas season had arrived- with our new little Elizabeth being our first gift of the season. The year flew by in some respects for me and I can’t believe its over… and here we are standing facing a new year- again. and needing to update a few things around here. still. and feeling full from the last year of being so blessed to have walked through it with a friend, but prayerfully coming to the sad conclusion that we are best as two separate businesses. Our families and lives landed in a bit different place than we expected at the end of the year with a new little one! Kelley has and continues to be a dear friend to me, a blessing in my life and as she puts on her blog “We will continue to talk daily, text like teenagers, work together when there is a need and support and encourage each other in all areas of life and business. As much as we would like other things, we will each follow the Lord’s direction and be joyful.” Joyfully, we say, we will be making a few changes around here in the next month. Check back in soon for those updates! We are excited for the year to come, many weddings already on the horizon, and a whole new year ahead…

As I was browsing some of my favorite photographers I came across a fun little project. I have been feeling the need to shoot for my self as a means to enjoy photography in a different way. When I saw this project on photographing hue and texture I knew this would be good for me, so here it goes!

Countdown to Christmas | Visalia Photographer

In another attempt to slow down and be with my kids during this busy, mad dash of a “Christmas Card” season in the studio, we sat together for the simple craft of making a advent chain. I bought a scrap pack of fun holiday paper from the craft store, grabbed simple craft supplies from around the house, my kiddos and we went to work.

These little opportunities to stop and focus on my kids and record them in photo’s is refreshing and fun. As a mom it reminds me of how much they have grown and as a photographer it reminds me of why I LOVE photography!

This time of year is busy. It is easy to not do the fun things with the kids but, I make a point to make time for Holiday fun and use the opportunity to take photo’s on my kids because sadly I don’t photograph them often enough. Gingerbread houses aren’t really a tradition yet. I have great plans for them every year but, it doesn’t always happen. I love the Costco gingerbread house kits because we just get to do the decorating:) This year the houses were even assembled with industrial strength royal icing:) I hope you are having a fun filled Christmas season!

Doors and Windows | Visalia Photographer

When I first started takeing photo’s. I had NO desire to photograph people. I was drawn to taking photo’s of the details of architecture, mainly windows and doors. I would hunt out old houses and barns and spend a long time working my way around the structure taking photo’s. Saturday as I sat in my car, in the rain, waiting for my session to arrive, I spotted this photo. Nothing fancy but, it is just my style! I want to re-purpose the windows and doors for something decorative in my home. I realize I need to shoot for myself more….Maybe that will be on my list of New Years resolutions.

And wouldn’t this be a GREAT spot for kiddo photos? siblings siting on the stoop? eating ice cream cones? Ok who want’s a photo shoot here? Funny now, how how ever many years later, I can’t not think of adding people to a photo.

Christmas is defiantly my favorite holiday. Our tree goes up as soon as it can after Thanksgiving. Christmas music plays on Pandora where ever I go. We drive to see houses lit up. We decorate gingerbread houses. We watch all kinds of Christmas movies. I do everything possible to soak in the season as much as possible and I hope you do too!

This isn’t just any girl, this is my sweet girl. I have had my eye on this hay stack for awhile and haven’t gotten a chance to shoot it. So I took my girl out for a mini shoot. I think I might have to take my kiddos back out in red, white and blue for some fourth of July photos. If any one is interested in a a mini shoot 4th of July style let me know!

Zoo Trip | Visalia Photographer

This past Saturday we took a little trip to the Fresno Zoo. We always enjoy going to the zoo but, this trip was prompted by the birth of a baby giraffe this past week. I am amazed by these large, awkward, beautiful creatures and didn’t want to pass up seeing a baby giraffe. The parents of this little one wouldn’t let it get to far from them as it took in all the on lookers. While we were there we got a happy surprise. We ran into some of our wonderful friends, the Hale girls who were spending the weekend with their grandparents. Such a happy surprise! We love you Hale’s!!!

Before we left I of course wanted to get a photo of our kiddos together looking at the camera. I got what I always get (and LOVE) my kiddos being their silly, sweet, crazy self’s…Crazy kiddos:)
